Meet Hannah: sip specialist, design eye, and general vibe curator at FUNQ. Hannah and her partner, Peter, opened FUNQ Natural Wine Bar in Porto in 2024. While Peter handled all the heavy lifting: tiling, wiring, plumbing and turning a blank white hallway into a fully functioning bar, Hannah made it sparkle and filled it with wine (lots of it). A true DIY love letter to quirky taste.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to meet Hannah and Peter first hand, you’re missing out! They have created such a welcoming community space with incredible wines. Say hello, see the space, and experience the community they’ve built at our upcoming STAMPED event:

Q&A with HANNAH

What inspired you to start your business or creative work?

“I was inspired in early 2022 when I tried to pick up a bottle of Italian wine for a dinner party—and couldn’t find a single one in town. Every shop was stocked exclusively with Portuguese wines. I was shocked, but it also lit a fire: maybe the city was thirsty for something different. That spark turned into FUNQ.”

What do you love most about being part of the community in Porto/Portugal?

“The warmth. I love walking down the street and running into neighbors, friends, fellow shopkeepers—it feels like living in a small town inside a city. Anytime we hit a snag, people are right there with advice, tools, or just a helping hand. That kind of support has been a game-changer for our baby business.”

How do you hope people feel when they engage with your brand or work?

“From day one, our goal was to make FUNQ feel like your best friend’s house party—if your best friend happened to have excellent taste in wine. We wanted something social, a little wild, totally unpretentious and different from what people think of when they hear 'wine bar'.”

What does “community” mean to you?

“To me, community is that beautiful loop of caring and being cared for. It’s calling our older neighbors when we haven’t seen them in a few days, helping someone fix a toilet, treating our employees like friends. One hand washes the other, right? It’s about being part of something bigger than just your own story.”

What’s something unexpected or meaningful that’s come out of your work so far?

“Honestly, it’s been watching life happen all around us. I didn’t realize when we opened that we’d become a backdrop for so many moments—first dates, birthday toasts, post-work catch-ups. Now we have regulars, inside jokes, “the usuals.” It’s like our little corner of the city came to life, and we got a front-row seat. Especially during the blackout— our spot was the local watering hole where all of our neighbors naturally ended up. So cool!”

Any local favorites in Porto you’d recommend?

“Oh, where do I start? My Google Maps is basically acne with all the red pins. But some standouts: Cave Bombarda is our go-to for wine hangs. For dinner on those rare nights off, we love RCA and The Door. And for a killer cocktail, it’s gotta be Fragil.”

Anything else you’d like to share with the STAMPED community?

“Just a big thanks for being curious about what we do. Hope to see you soon for a glass and a good time.”
